My old blog was hacked earlier this week.

Somehow someone

gained access to the administrative area and media.

Needless to say I am more than a little disturbed by this.

Anyway, here is my new offering…

  1. Do you think it was a targeted “hack” or just random? I would highly recommend that you turn on two-factor authentication to lessen the risk of it happening again. You can set it to remember common devices (laptop, mobile) so you’ll only need to enter in a 2FA code once, but logins from unknown devices will prompt for a code. I use LastPass Authenticator, however Google, Microsoft, and other companies all offer similar code generators.

    1. Irene, I downloaded everything prior to closing. I suggest everyone make sure they log out of their blog each and every time. WP has not been of any assistance. Thank you xx

  11. Oh wow, Holly….who does this sort of thing? I’m just shaking my head on this. Well, I’m glad you managed to salvage any unsaved work and close the other out successfully. I think there is some sort of program that you can download to check the web to see if anybody is actually trying to pass off your work as theirs. I can’t think of the name of it right now, but I’m sure someone will come up with it if you don’t already know. Best of luck, as always, I look forward to your phenomenal writing!

  15. I’m so gutted this happened to you, Holly. I’m glad your stuff was saved, but how devastating that it occurred in the first place. Do you have any clue as to how the breach came about?

    1. Thank you for the encouragement Stephen. It was devastating to find that some one was able to breach my administrative area. I don’t know how it happened, WP had no recourse for me other than to suggest one sign out when they are not using their blog. Obviously I am not that easy to get rid of…:) xx
