In the shadows of a rundown bar
she breathes cigars and Cuba Libre.
A Spanish guitar plays Guananey
as she swallows the night
in a sunflower dress with no shoes.
She longs for her homeland
and the impossible dream of
freedom.

Amazing Señorita. Being of Cuban descent this piece touches me in a way you may never know. So many miss their homeland which the United States set aside to live in darkness. I hope to visit my parent’s homeland in 2019. Amazing words Holly. Thank you for this write.

Thank you Drew. I didn’t know you are of Cuban descent. There are many Latino’s in my family, mostly Cuban. As I stated earlier Miami is 76% Latino now. May you return from that beautiful island with the loveliest and most joyful memories.

Indeed. Perhaps after the present regime…we opened our arms to our friends to the South. Miami is 76% Latino.

There is a huge Cuban community I know. The island itself is stuck in a time warp from when the Castros took over.

The older generation can’t get past Castro and are vehemently against travel or lifting sanctions but the younger generation here is very well assimilated. Cuba is like the planet Mars for them. They wouldn’t mind visiting but wouldn’t want to live there.

That’s the perfect description.

Lol, it’s so true, but I love that beautiful Island and it’s people, so many poverty stricken but full of heart.

They are doing great…they are becoming our most educated members of society here, and those who don’t go on to higher education are fantastic hard workers. Every group of people have their bad apples, but these kids are fantastic. Right now we have Senator Marco Rubio and Sen. Balart born in Cuba, parents came in the 60’s. I strongly disagree with them because they are Trumper’s (though they consider him a moron like most). but just an example.

Definitely they are making good strides here. I know Rubio and Balart (his brother does news for Telemundo).

Yes, he also fills in for Lester Holt NBC on weekends. He started out as a local newscaster in Miami but moved on. Good for him.

I’m drawing (on the cigar) Aquileana, at this time, is being sketched as 2 Goddesses. You must be sketched in an Art Gown! How do you feel about “Flora Blanca”? ❤
