As Charles so eloquently expresses, it is time to read and understand the constitution. The 2nd amendment was not intended to provide citizens the right to purchase assault rifles.
Stand up for the lives of our most precious commodity, our children, or will we wait until they fix the problem at the polls.

Please, in the name of the victims of the most recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida, let us begin to do something to change the national insanity of gun deaths.

Stop with the old lie — “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” It is illogical, fallacious, wrong, and stupid. Guns are weapons and are designed to expel bullets that are intended to kill. That is their purpose. That is why they exist.

Guns kill people.

Guns are not used to make paintings; they are not used to drive screws into wood; they are not made to make omelets; they are not created to write letters; and they are not aimed at making sculptures.

Guns are made to kill. That is their purpose.

The United States has a history of gun ownership based on the 2nd Amendment. As  I would say to my students, please do a close reading, parse…

  1. It is a thoughtful article. You would think that 300,000 gun-related deaths in the past decade in the USA, and 1500 gun related deaths of children a year (and how many permanently maimed) would have intelligent politicians controlling guns. Instead, there is talk of putting guns into classrooms. It is beyond belief. The second amendment (wrongly interpreted) has made Gun the God in America, the NRA its priests, and the politicians (especially Trump, its whores.

    1. Well said! The NRA is pouring millions of dollars into the pockets and campaigns of those politician who support non regulation of firearms. Blood money. It seems especially hard to resist by this president and Congress. Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

        1. It’s a sad time. My hope lies in these amazing young people who can and will turn this around at the polls…assuming the Russians have not been allowed to determine the outcome of future elections as they attempted to do ( and may have succeeded) in 2016.

    1. We all need to be heard. These are our children. The prospect of arming teachers is a clear sign of a capitulation to the NRA. To even imagine that makes my blood run cold.

          1. Yes, ever heard of a mass shooting like this in Sweden or Switzerland? Me neither. Yes all countries have difficulties but not like this. I love my country but this makes me want to move. I read an article on CNN a while back on the safest places on earth to raise children. You know where the US was? 31 – next to Russia. No I’m not kidding! Western Europe had us beat big time. And then when you add in health care, and low cost college tuition in these countries, the list is staggering. Ok i should stop. Peace my friend.

  2. As an armchair jockey up here in Canada, I am bewildered. Is my armchair out of commission?

  4. Amy the president is recommending we arm teachers now. Playing right imto the hands of the NRA as he promised to do. The 2nd amendment needs to be reviewed. We aren’t living in 1776. The British are not coming. We must stop this madness.

    1. Remember the history of the 2nd amendment to the constitution was intended to allow the protection of some brave souls escaping religious oppression. It is being bastardized today by the NRA and certain politicians quid pro quo.

  5. Dr. French knows how to read and interpret the Constitution. This is surely the way the Founding Fathers expected us to understand their message! 🔔 Freedoms still need to be kept safe! 🇺🇸

    1. Oh, it’s so messed up. My hairdresser was angry at the kids for not “knowing” the 2nd amendment says we are all entitled to arm ourselves. Sometimes I think the kids are smarter than most of us.

      1. That is messed up, Holly! I don’t get ignorance, getting too old to accept people who don’t use their heart nor their heads!! The kids are trying, like when I was young the Vietnam War protestors and hippies were preaching “Love is the answer.” ❤️ Not too bad of an anthem once again! 🎶

        1. Florida is the wild wild west. The governor finally passed some restrictions on buying guns and now the NRA is suing the Fla. legislature. They want to rule the world! So disturbing.
