I know I love you
because when I think
of you my heart feels full,
a pond choking with water hyacinth,
their hungry roots reaching deep
into the beds of yearning,
overflowing walls of longing
where I am so afraid to fall .
Because I love you I forfeit
my privilege, allow my heart
to drown in you as though you
are liquid.
Vincent Van Gogh

Yes indeed, while I felt it was springtime in Tallahasee until Tuesday’s weather dropped the temperatures, it recovered quickly. Those poor souls whacked by this artic blast is stunning. My sister told me she read a news report that the city of Hell had frozen over and I immediately thought a lot of oaths are now due. 🥶

The arctic blast across our North and Canada is stunning and very concerning. We had temps in the low 70s here and expect that again today, I hope this strange event is not an omen for an active hurricane season here. Take care, stay warm and well.

Thank you Rene and likewise for you as well. I was stunned at the deforestation in the panhandle. I drove 130 miles with moderate to severe damage and standing water everywhere. Most structures were only lightly damaged but some older buildings were destroyed from too much too close together. It was the worst I’d seen in my lifetime. Thankfully, the government says it didn’t happen so I can ignore what my eyes told me. On the good side, the forests will recover with new growth but it will be generations before we see the full recovery of nature. Along I-10 from Tallahassee to Mariana, the state is still clearing trees from the easements of the interstate. We ain’t afraid, right?

Dan, it’s so disturbing what happening to Mother Earth, the science deniers , corporate greed, and thecjust plain ignorant. What are we leaving for future generations?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Have no fear, my dear friend. Mother nature heals herself from all wounds. She is not tied to our schedules and will not bend to our will. We fool ourselves thinking we are in control of our destiny on this earth. Those like yourself will always serve as a kind example to others. Change is slow but inevitable. It is us that will need to adapt, not nature.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I believe you are right. Man will adapt or face demise. It has always been so.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes it has always been so. Our sun has 10 billion years of fuel left and that is enough for 10 complete restarts for earth. Our minds can’t fathom the dramatic changes that occur over 100 million years of earth time, but Mother Earth is not constrained by our lack of foresight and understanding. What we face is not total destruction, but total change. If we adapt, we will embrace and survive that change much like our ancestors did. Don’t fear or regret it, you have a young son learning how to be a pathfinder and he’ll know the way. He has a fine and noble heritage behind him.

Lovely response Dan. There is little we can do to change the course but mankind has proven resilient and we must go with whatever challenge we face.

That’s right, plus our school kids are at risk since vaccines stopped becoming mandatory for entry to public schools. We are having a measles epidemic here
LikeLiked by 1 person
I know. And people have become even more stupid. There is a rash of not vaccinating children in France. So measles is on the rise there too. As for flu, I think there have already been 1,000 casualties in France since the beginning of the year. 8I caught the whooping cough on a plane back form Paris two years ago. No-one could figure it out!) 😦

Parents are spooked about the Autism thing and afraid of vaccines. When I was a school kid and In college we had to have our vaccine records to be admitted. It’s too dangerous now , so many people are susceptible !

I’ve said it over and over again, the words of Shakespeare always come to my mind:
“Folly and ignorance, the common lot of mankind…”
I mean, Autism is a very serious condition, but what is the incidence of it?
Do you want your kid to catch polio? I remember an American friend of ours, he was the Ambassador to the African country we were living in. He caught polio at 40-45. Nearly died. Tsss.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I don’t know if there is any correlation but everything has risks. Back when I was a kid we never heard of Autism but of course it could have been undiagnosed. Still, we need to vaccinate our kids to make sure they don’t get a dread communicable disease , one that has returned after being wiped out by vaccinations. I recently read their have been cases of the plague fishnet in remote areas. Travel is worldwide now.

Going back in time, I think of the after war, the 50’s (Rock & Roll and antibiotics) the 60’s (Civil rights) The 70’s (Freedom). It all started to go downhill with Reagan. (Though he did play a good bargain with the Russians.)
I remember my parent’s friends. All or most had been in the war. And I think they had seen enough horror to avoid it at all cost. So we had peace.
Now? Nobody remembers, and we’re all ready to go at each other’s throat again. I may have said that before but I am worried. There are knife attacks in Paris almost every other week! Looks like many are carrying a knife. Seriously? In Paris?

Not ‘ny more. We had a Beagle for a dozen years. (She was supposed to be for daughter 2 but of course, she left her with us.) Crazy “buggers” Beagles are, but very nice. Then we “inherited” a cat when my father died. She didn’t even have a name. My father lost all interest in pets when my mother passed. So I called the cat Miao DzeDong. She spent the rest of her life happy with us.
Won’t have any more pets. It’s always such a heartbreak when they die. 😦
