Thank you Jane. It must be very frightening for them. I caught a monarch as a child and when I let him go his colors were on my fingers and I cried knowing he would never be the same.
It’s probably just one of those sayings that don’t have any truth in them, but as you say, if it stops kids mangling butterflies, who cares if it’s true or not?
As many butterflies and moths that I’ve rescued from the cats and turned free, they know their fate is in our hands. Wonderful poem, yet sad to ponder the thoughts and feelings of a Monarch snared, held clutched between your fingers.
(Hermann Hesse)
I really enjoyed the childlike innocence of this poem. We learn many things from our interaction with these beautiful creatures. Iβve always had an affinity for butterflies and dragonflies. Even as a small child enjoying the thrill of the chase, I somehow knew to play but never harm them. Interesting point. I used to spend summers at Aligator Point in the Panhandle of Florida back when the point was privately owned by friends of my grandparents. The point was the only place in America that Monarchs gathered during their migration to and from South America. It was a nesting site for birds as well. I was able to enjoy those rare sights and it filled me with a marvelous curiousity that never waned. The tip of the point is now restricted access so Monarchs and birds can rest if they still visit without the crush of thoughtless encroachment by tourism. I truly thank you Rene for your delicate forays into my dusty memories stacked high in every nook and cranny of my brain mansion. π€π¦
Dear Dan, thank you for sharing such an unforgettable experience, these are the things that remain with us from childhood. We had a huge garden that attracted hundreds of butterflies of every color. Watching those beautiful little Creatures flit among the flowers was magical and completely fascinating π€π¦
Very true Rene. How lucky we were to experience gardens and butterfiles which were tradition in Floridaβs old southern culture. Even now, I am still captivated by those moments of their appearance. πππ¦
Those tiny beautiful creatures personify innocence and a fleeting fantasy that we can briefly escape to, thank you for the lovely comments Dan β€οΈπ€ π¦
I know, Dear Holly but such a suspenseful ending! I know you would always set him free, but the words on paper for those who may not???? Sorry, I shouldn’t kid you!! You would watch him happily fly away to other flowers!
xoxo
This is exemplary!
Adore, adore, adore.
Dear Holly, I had a Monarch painted on my wall outside, to attract the Monarchs to our garden. We have Milkweed planted there for them. I’ll be posting it soon. May I include this poem…. so beautiful! xoxo
Always a pleasure! Brought back memories of doing this exact thing!!! I really was waiting for the ending – “And then I set him free once more!” I think this needs a sequel???? LOL! Have a great week, Holly!
xoxo
That’s sad, our environment is getting worse all the time, our bees are threatened too. I think I told you we have African Killer Bees here (not indigenous of course) that have killed several people who inadvertantly happened on their gigantic nests hidden in the trees . π¦ Wht to do. This lousy government of ours has no interest in the planet or taking care of our world. β€
Iβm afraid the disservice and disruption created by this individual is beyond forgiveness. I donβt know what it would take to wake up his backers. Maybe when they are looking back on the democracy they once enjoyed.
I don’t know either. I’ve seen declarations on other blogs that blow my mind. Such as: “The transcript? Nothing wrong there.”
And I also have a nagging feeling many don’t give a hoot about democracy. And don’t know zip about History.
Ask today’s Germans about it. They are very cautious because they have learned the lesson. The hard way. π¦
I’ve cut myself off the news almost completely. I understand the Tramp pulled US troops away leaving his “allies” alone and that the Turks are taking advantage to get rid of the Kurds “once and for all”, correct? The same Kurds who practically single-handedly defeated the Islamic State? π¦
If you go back to his company’s organization, he has no executive officers as any decent corporation has. Just his relatives. He does the same at Penn. Avenue. Sigh.
Question. Don’t know if you saw my post today. I am going to dedicate my posts for the next 3 1/2 months to women. I will be introducing Inspiring Women Of WordPress.
Would you give me the honor of highlighting you and House of Heart one day on one of my posts?
I did see your post today and think it is wonderful. I am looking forward to following your dedications. I would be more than honored and so delighted to be included. Thank you so much for thinking of me Drew.
Thank you so much. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate this so much Holly. You are one of the great poets here. I was really hoping to introduce you. Thanks.
Iβm sincerely delighted and so honored, this is a beautiful gesture on your part Drew, Iβm sure all the ladies will feel the same as I do, you have the gift of making everyone feel very special. Thank you once again .
I think they do know. They wouldn’t try so hard to get away if they didn’t. I love that nectary and the dew-drenched wings.

We were told as children never to touch a butterfly because if the dust of their wings came off on our fingers it would never be able to fly again.
