I am reminded of you.
The door to the past swings open
releasing sleek eels of memories
where I am nothing or at best
a trembling leaf lost on a autumn breeze.
Do you ever think of me?
See me in constellations pressed against the sky,
hear me in the surge of the tide?
I would seek comfort in the moon but I am
so trivial and he is taken by the stars.
In dreams my tongue is a crimson snake
Hungrily flicking the skin of your thigh
curling around the catch in my throat.
He is god and has named me regret.
I close our door with pried fingers.
I’ve given up on prayer hands.
Art by Rita Hardy
“In my dreams is a, f’ t’, crimson snake.” The weirdest dream I ever had was at uni in 2004, when a T. Rex was destroying my uni in Nottingham. And the T. Rex’s head was Brad Pitt’s. I may have mentioned this before because it’s a favourite anecdote of mine, although somewhat unrelated to your excellent poem here.

A T Rex in Nottingham? How gauche and scary. You have not mentioned this before ( raises eyebrow).

Oh that’s good! Raise eyebrows all you want, just be aware a T. Rex can’t do that.

Madam, you don’t need a Ferrari. You need a Reliant Robin! I guess we’ll clash on this one. I like minimalism. I donut have car. I have a helicopter out back, but otherwise I generally tend to perambulate within districts Manchester City Council deems socially acceptable. Innit.

This poem, Holly, sings the desperate song of a woman in the abandon. The man who was like her god forgets her and calls her ” Regrets ” . Why to pray more , indeed . Love become Regret.

Powerful imagery and emotion in your words and your selection of art, Rene. The hallmark of House of Heart is indeed the careful and detailed examination of the heart that beats in most of us. Working on the Monarch post, but it looks like Charlie Zero is posting the black door I painted with his micro poem tomorrow.
So, I’ll reblog… then it’s the Monarch post.
Holly… it’s so cold here, now. Our furnace water pump broke down. Uch.. I hope it works now. The wonderful repair person just left.
66 degrees in the apartment.

Holly. My God, Holly, you stupefy me! I’m in tears, trembling in fact. The emotion, the raw bleeding emotion that came through was so powerful I could taste every single word you wrote. If dig a little deeper (and I was trained to be wary of one’s own interpretations) It seems to me that… even when the subject is dark, your work is full of “joie de vivre”. Energy. Spirit. (Fight) ๐

Great imagery and it has that “je ne sais quoi” that indefinable, pheromonal “somehing” one perceives in a good poem. I’ve mused about that in a post of the same name on my blog. However, c.f. the attitude by one worn out by the intensity of young romance (and even the ill-advised intensity of aged infatuation.) https://vernonmileskerr.com/2018/04/24/poetry-venus-the-cruel/
