The sun has lost its domain

snow birds shroud the light

A handful of starlings quiver on

bare branches so  fragile in fixed feathers

they could fit in the palm of a hand.

Suspended  in frozen breath they sing

for the reach of an outstretched hand

clinging to a red-tailed kite floating

above snowy fields of  wildflowers in full bloom.

  1. They sing the silence,
    shiver the stillness,
    weave the air.
    Little mischief-makers everywhere.

    Yesterday’s plumage
    and backpacks…
    yesterday’s bus stations…
    yesterday’s walk…
    weary now in boarded doorways…
waiting for phantoms who used to live there.

    Little mischief-makers everywhere.

      1. Holly, I saw where Mr. Gaetz is at it again in Florida playing his sycophant card for the outgoing president. I mention him in my post about Republican Congressman Denver Riggleman’s reference to people who are aiding the president’s claims as “unethical.” Keith

        1. Dear Keith, we have criminals for senators in Florida, the governor too (allowing people to die is surely a crime). The GOP continues to enable the president (and they are more than complicit) in his attempt to destroy our democracy. History will not be kind to them, I don’t imagine they will find it worth it in the end.

          1. Holly, my former state of FL is a good case study. Trump tapped into the anti-socialism theme and the worst slogan ever created “defund the police” which did not mean take all the money away, but that is how it was presented. Biden is a moderate, so they ran against the possible (and drummed up) negative influence of AOC, Bernie, etc. Scott’s history is checkered and Rubio could have been the future of the GOP, but he ran a campaign in 2016 as a tired old man, not an energetic future oriented Senator. Gaetz and the DeSantis are incumbents the states should NOT hold up with pride. We are so ill-informed in our country, so it is easy to influence people with conspiracy nonsense just as the outgoing president is doing now. Keith

          2. so many people so easily brainwashed are under the influence of social media and are either too lazy or ignorant to read legitimate sources or find those boring when they can wallow in Qanon and other conspiracies. I’m disappointed that Biden is allowing the far left to dictate some of his decisions on his cabinet though in most cases he has chosen experienced and hopefully competent nominees. He should lose this idea of “you came out to vote, now I must placate you”, As though they had a choice between him and Trump, the most dangerous man ever to occupy space in the White House.

  2. Happy Thanksgiving, dear Holly!

Listening to the very pretty, searching and loving song you posted.

The image of the last 2 lines of your winter crystals poem is welcome, today. Thank you! I have seen flowers blooming in the snow. I know I have, and not just crocuses.
It’s the dark time of year up here, by Lake Ontario. Although Ontario is an Iroquois word “kanadario”, meaning “sparkling” water, today the lake is a mirror.

Again, have a wonderful day – A loving Thanksgiving for you and yours!

    1. Thank you dear Resa. Such a beautiful comment, it’s very warm here to day, I would love to see Lake Ontario. I was in Banff in 2018, can you believe I went in July so missed the snow and skiing.
Have a wonderful evening dear heart! Stay warm. xoxoxo

  3. As always, I see a deep and beautiful message that calls to us to extend a warm and welcoming hand in this winter of life and those affected and bring us to a new beginning, a warm and welcoming spring. A lovely message, Rene.

        1. I’m so glad you enjoy reading my scribbling Dan. It makes me very happy. I did do a bit of online shopping for a friends anniversary and a birthday present. I’m not quite into Christmas yet. Enjoy your evening!🤗🌼

          1. I adore your scribbling Rene. I think my Head Elves just aren’t happy unless I take them for a ride to House of Heart. The marketeers have all my weaknesses covered for a great price. I’m holding out, but just barely. I hope I can find my Christmas tree before New Years. I left it in the garage, now the garage is full.

          2. Oh, and living in Florida adds the possibility of a raccoon family wintering over. Iguanas prefer trees so make sure you shake it out good. The little ones are cute but those big ole red ones look like sho nuff dragons 😲🦎🦝🦝🦝

          3. There’s no telling what’s in there. Possums , hedgehogs ( love those) no iguanas 🦎 though. I’m not having that. Loved the little Owl that was living in the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. He was just adorable 😍

          4. I like the idea of having an owl around for Christmas. The kids would get a hoot outa that. 🦉😆.. sorry, that was the Head Elves again. LOL, at the no iguana zone. That’s really freaky about all the scaly things moving to Florida. They must really like it there.

          5. They love it here. In the “winter” if we happen to have a dip in Temp the Iguanas go into a catatonic state, Just lie there Immobilized for awhile. It’s a phenomenon. At times there can be forty or more just lying on there backs until they finally come around.

          6. Looks like the temperature is dropping 40 degrees tonight and Tuesday night. We might get snow. Maybe Florida will get a lizard siesta. Take pictures! 😁🦎🦎🦎☃️

          7. LOL, they might not be the only ones losing their grip this winter. We are moving back to home school after Thanksgiving break so all the kiddies will be at home alone while the parents go to work. I expect a sudden outbreak of shenanigans. 🥸🥳
