From the window

as quiet as  as a river I can watch

the moon shiver in the breeze

through the fronds of palm trees.

Hibiscus wave like  children

their mouths move  silently,

hands of garland reach out to

one another.

I am grateful for the sweet

drape of your eyes that like

fluttering wings of birds lift

the shawl of darkness where in

the light  prismatic butterflies

breach their  chrysalis and

vanish in the arching sky.

These are the riches

the golden sunlight passing through us.

  1. You paint such a beautiful scene in natureโ€™s colors, Rene. I love the way you end the poem like a crowning glory, a moment under a kind sun.

      1. I read your poems over and over until they play in my head like a movie. Itโ€™s like a visual meditation. Your magic pen never disappoints.

          1. Yummy! I confess. I love dipping my Christmas butter cookies with red or green sugar sprinkles into my coffee. ๐Ÿคซ Donโ€™t tell. Iโ€™m not supposed to do that.

  2. Too cold to send you new words today
    (inside and out)…
if I could warm a while by your fire,
    like a butterfly,
trying to shake the snow from its wings and its heart…

  3. This is a perfect time to remind us of our riches, dear Holly!
This is a very pretty prose. I find it all the more poignant with the Monarch Butterfly at the end.
The monarch has many lessons for man. It, the bees and many more creatures cry out for their riches to return.

      1. Exactly, as you have written.
I know we need to have $$ and/or material ability to survive. Yet, wherein does true wealth lie? Under the drape of eyes, I sense there is an answer. xoxoxo
