When I spread my wings

I feel the pull of freedom.

I spread them wide and trail

my shadow the way birds do.

Your hands are elegant thieves

your tongue a web of lies,

in this desperate nest of chaos

When the veil falls apart and

daylight slivers through I can see

the slant of sky where you slipped in.

“Late at night when the wind is still
I’ll come flying through your door,
And you’ll know what love can do

I’m a Blue Bird.”

Paul McCartney

  1. My hands may be elegant thieves but not clever enough to hold you. And my tongue may look in a web of lies, but thirsty enough to take the risk! It is you who I will aim for. πŸ€—πŸ’–πŸ™πŸ˜˜
    Happy birthday Paul πŸ˜πŸ˜‡πŸ˜Ž

Spent last night trying to proportionally draw a woman by a motorcycle. Interesting exercise!

  2. Whenever I spread these tiny wings,
    some other bird
    will always show up,
showing me how much bigger its wings are…
    casting its brighter,
    wider shadows on the clouds.

Whenever I spread these tiny wings,
    I’ll feel so sad
    for one so wild,
like a sparrow made fragile in your jets…

    waiting for kisses,
    crazy doodles,
    smudged on clouds
    and
maybe a world still tender enough for tiny wings.

  3. Keith your critique denies poetic license and would be more than welcome at a poetry forum where line by line breakdown is welcomed. Please enjoy ( or not) the poem as it stands . The lyrics from McCartney’s Blue Bird are intended as a small tribute to the authors birthday that recently passed.
