By morning I have renamed us.

Thrumming wings take flight

 through crimson wounds

you have christened with your hands,

a forgiveness I can believe in.

I’ve etched your voice in my memory

to not forget the glossy sound

of humming wings when you speak.

In dreams crystal eyes orbit above me,

brilliant satellites,

so that I may sleep free of shadows.

I’ve pared us down to dark and light,

forgotten all I knew of love and when

I try to speak my words catch

at the cache of my throat.

  1. Holly, nicely done. And, I love the painting you have paired with your words. This stanza spoke to me, especially with the reference to satellites:

“In dreams crystal eyes orbit above me,

    brilliant satellites,

so that I may sleep free of shadows.”

    Take care, Keith

  2. Ah, Holly Dahling!
    Your words are humming wings.
So much said within, should one care to bask in meanings.

OH! Is that a slice of cake? My eyes are fuzzy. I thought it was a slice of cheese.
I’ll get it right next time! 🙃

  3. Wow, Holly! This is a poem like a box of sparkling gems in different colors. I don’t know why but it came to my mind while reading your colorful and sparkling poetic words.

      1. Always an honor and privilege to share your posts with followers, Holly!! Hope you are having a great day!
I’ve seen some of the weather reports on that dust heading your way. Are you in the line of fire?

          1. Sorry! Storming is not good compared to just raining! We had over 21 days with rain in the forecast a few weeks ago. Saw a great piece on what DeSantos is doing to colleges “indoctrinating students”. They have given him a new nickname “Comrade DeSantos”!! Cracked me up!

  4. Great romance, and it meets totally Klimt’s artwork. Thank you for sharing, Holly!
I am now back, with a reopened and selfhosted blog: https://books.eslarn-net.de. Its sad not beeing able to reopen the WP.com blog, but with a GDPR that is not adapted to German needs, we are still allowed to read things from the USA ;-), but not send any data to you. German behaviour! Lol
I will repost the header of your blog, and only the first few lines of every poem, if you will allow. Best wishes, Michael

  5. Beautiful.
    Simply Beautiful.
I wish for something more approaching ‘piercing eloquence’ to add to my comment but,
    Alas…

    “…when
I try to speak my words catch
at the cache of my throat.”

    Beautiful work Holly.
    Cheers,
    Lance
